A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman—who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls. Proverbs 31:10 Amplified Classic
I keep finding myself drawn to Proverbs 31 lately. Probably because ‘momming’ in my house is in FULL swing (cheesy reference to baseball season.) Whether it’s trying to make pizza before we’re out the door, only to discover we’re out of flour and tomato sauce (kind of essential ingredients), or realizing that my daughter told me weeks ago she needed new jeans and now the only pair she has is ripped in places that are NOT fashionable (or at least acceptable in my mind!), let’s just say I do not always feel like I’m rocking this mom thing!
This weekend, I’ve been meditating on this verse: ‘A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman-who is he who can find her?’ Oh boy, that’s a lot! Capable, intelligent, and virtuous? That’s a little hard to swallow from the woman that just tried to substitute biscuit mix for flour in her pizza dough. (Don’t do it. It’s nasty!) But if God has taught me anything, it’s to hang in there with Him. There’s powerful truth if we won’t just slink away in shame, or skip past the uncomfortable parts.
Capable, intelligent, virtuous…Wait a minute, doesn’t the Bible say that NO ONE is righteous?!?…That’s exactly the point.
“There is no one righteous, not even one.” Romans 3:10
If you are feeling in any way that you don’t measure up to the super mom expectations of either Proverbs 31, society’s “Modern Mom” or really anything you have in your head of what kind of a woman you ‘should be’, take a deep breath…You’re right. You don’t measure up. And God has a plan for that.
God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. Romans 5:21
The beautiful thing about God is that we don’t have to hide anything from Him. He knows us, completely. He knows our weaknesses, failures, and shortcomings. He also knows our longings, our aspirations, our intentions, He knows it ALL. And He made a way to bridge the gap between who we are on our own, and who we can be with Him.
Because of Jesus, every failure can be covered by His blood. Because of Jesus, I’m not defined by my shortcomings and weaknesses. Because of Jesus, I am now right with God, and this is what He says about me, and YOU:
You are capable. (He made you that way.)
You are intelligent. (By His design.)
You are virtuous. (Because His love never fails.)
As a mom, what we do is important. How we do it is even more important, and knowing who we are is essential to being the woman we are created to be.
So take a deep breath Mom. Receive God’s truth for you today. Have you received what Jesus has done for you on the cross? Your weakness for His strength? It’s available every single day.
Super Mom can be a reality, but only with God, as He defines you. Let His supernatural grace flow through you today. Remember what He says about you:
You are capable. You are intelligent. You are HIS.
